I installed this onto my 2008 BMW 535i E60. It has its complaints, for example

  1. I have to press "Navigation" each time I enter the vehicle to enable CarPlay
  2. The headunit does not resume from the last driving session (see #1)
  3. Every now and again (once every 2-3 months?), Z-Link will lock-up on "connecting" for Carplay connectivity, and I have to go into the Android settings menu to force stop the app so it can make a connection.
    1. Sometimes I have to kill Bluetooth as well to force it to work, PITA when it does freeze/glitch
    2. Otherwise, pull over, kill the engine, lock the car to kill power to the headunit then unlock and start again
  4. I installed a reverse camera onto the trunk handle, when in reverse, it stops the audio and cuts from Carplay to the input of the reverse camera, then when in D or P it'll return to your session and resume.
    1. With Carplay, because of the interruption, you will have to select "Play" on your audio to resume the music
    2. We have a Ford that has Sync 3 and Carplay. When in reverse, music plays over the camera and dampens the music when the parking sensors are sending alerts. I wish the Koason did the same.
  5. I wish they maintained the headunit for updates to Z-Link and other applications, I wish the Koason did the same (see #3)
  6. The USB header cables that connect to the headunit are not powerful enough to charge an iPhone 13 Pro, you will need some alternative source to do so.
  7. Application Picture on Picture would be the answer this headunit needs so you don't have to leave your session with Carplay/Android Auto to modify settings for the OEM menu or reverse camera.

If I had the $1.2k at the time for a proper retrofit headunit that took my CCC to CIC and provided Carplay functionality, I would do it in a heartbeat. FWIW, I wanted a more modern experience and when it is connected and humming along, it works fine; it has its gimmicks that I may try to modify in the future on my own. As it is, you get what you pay for I guess.
