I don't have experience with CPL adapters, but they would be my first bet in a situation like yours.

Also, I know you said ethernet cables wouldn't work, but have you considered flat ones like these ? At less than 1.5mm thickness, they can really fit into a lot of places... They might not go very well with the stone walls though (I mean, look too modern).
