I bought mine on Amazon for about $15/gallon. I didn't find the smell to be particularly noticeable, certainly no worse than something like the Mr. Clean I use to mop the floors. Rubbing alcohol is far more volatile, so I'd think it would have a stronger odor. I know for sure that acetone (which I've used in the past) is much worse smell-wise. Looking around Amazon a gallon of rubbing alcohol seems to run at minimum around $30. More if you buy it in smaller containers.
Maybe I have a higher threshold, but I didn't find anything particularly "gross" about it. I just poured it out into a sink and used a toothbrush with bare hands. Found no skin discoloration or anything.
All that being said, use what you like! There's absolutely no reason to switch if something is working for you. In my case, I wanted to try another popular option that wouldn't eat through plastic and was reasonably cheap. =)
