Best tip that I can give. Listen to a lot of Latin (there's a list of podcasts and YouTube Channels at the end of the article I quoted), try to read as much graded Latin as you can before you delve into complicated authors; resist the urge to look up words in the dictionary or grammar explanations, if you are still not getting something use the Latine Disco or the Companion or ask.
