😅 Thank you everyone for the feedback. We were bracing for bad news seeing that it didnt look like anything we've brewed before.
A little information for anyone curious about specifications:
The jar was sterilized by immersing it in boiling water for 15 minutes.
We also chose to use the same water since by then the chlorine was evaporated.
We used Imozai black tea (5 bags) and steeped it for...a generous amount of time (2 hours+). https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07TRYTXQT?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
We ordered "Anthony's Organic Cane sugar" through Amazon (1 cup) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0182YKU1Y?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
The scoby/s were ordered through Amazon as well and arrived from the "Kombucha Store" in Madison, WI. Heres a link that hopefully works: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08WT2PLDY?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title It should be noted that these scoby are listed as being cultured in organic cane sugar, so perhaps the success of this 1F is due in part to continuing to nurture it with organic sugar...or not, we are clueless...haaa...
The storage was in an open room that recieved southern exposure sunlight for a small portion each day on a hardwood floor. The house is kept around 70° F and the fermination thermometer strips fluxated between 65 to 71°F.
Since we have around 7 gallons of experimental 1F going in various containers these Madison Wisconsin Scobys here were hardly touched or tampered with, if at all.
We have been following the direction of 'The Big Book of Kombucha" by Hannah Crum :https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1612124348?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title so far this seems to be an extensive resource and wouldnt discourage anyone considering it for a holiday purchase.
Hope that helps someone. Once again thanks everyone for the feedback and kindness. Appreciate you all.
