I have a great suggestion and might work for you., but requires spending some money if you don’t mind. Actually, I was actually going to suggest getting some enterprise gear called Ruckus r510 and load it with unleashed firmware 200.6.x... skip 200.7.x and 200.8.x since there is WiFi speed issue on iOS devices which is in the process of being worked out with support... This bug only impacts 802.11ac wave 2 APs.

Anyway, the reason why I suggest ruckus WiFi access points is because of their unique antenna design which is the best in the WiFi industry. It seems it can go through brick since my brother has one thick brick wall while other WiFi access points like Apple AirPort Extreme AC signal could not go through well. Anyway, you might want try from amazon so there is no risk to you.

Ruckus Wireless ZoneFlex R510 Unleashed Indoor Access Point, Concurrent Dual-Band, 802.11ac, 9U1-R510-US00 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072PRC9C1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_bL1tEbCJS9Z0G

Make sure you are an amazon prime member...

If it doesn’t work out, you can return it in 30 days, but I think it’s worth a try. Note you might need two, but get one and see how well it works out for you.

Make sure you load up unleashed firmware 200.6.x

And if you need to mesh r510 or greater will support mesh.

Note for best coverage mount them on the ceiling, but can still place it on a desk.

Also note if you mount them to a wall, it will give you more vertical coverage.

Think of the RF coverage shaped like a doughnut when flat on surface which gives you more horizontal coverage.

Note: if you get it from Amazon, you don’t get a warranty through Ruckus unless you get it from an authorized dealer which is almost double the amount. Ruckus gives a limited lifetime warranty only if you get it from an authorized dealer.

As for reliability, ruckus APs are very reliable. I haven’t seen one fail yet since I started deploying them in 2014 for my clients. Theses days, I help friends and family get used ruckus APs from eBay which are much cheaper and reflash them to unleashed APs.

Note: for a good price on eBay used : r510 $111-$150; R610 $135-$199

I really think ruckus maybe the solution for you. You probably need two and can mesh them and turn off the WiFi off the netgear while still using the netgear as a router.

Note: you’ll need to get two POE injectors to power the r510.

If you have any questions let me know.
