Sengleds are good for the price.

I have about 10 a19 white and 6 a19 color bulbs. Hub, not wifi

Had the white ones for about 5 years. None of them have burned out.

Color ones for about 2. All going strong as well.

Depending on your alexa device, assuming it is an echo, it may or may not have a built in zigbee hub, which is effectively what a sengled hub would do.

From what i see on amazon, assuming you want to go with wifi / bluetooth + alexa only. It's the cheapest entry point to all of this.

Here's some totally unsolicited advice

There are 3 standards. 4 if you count wifi

  1. Zigbee
  2. Z-Wave
  3. Matter

Matter is new so compatible devices will be expensive.

I would advise against wifi, as all control is done in the cloud...so if your internet goes out, you will have to hit the switches manually. Not a big deal but a bit of a mood killer. If you have the same wireless SSID for both 2.4 and 5ghz networks like a google wifi, they tend to be a pain in the ass to pair. I found LIFX wifi bulbs to be impossible to pair with a google wifi mesh setup.

That said, wifi is still the easiest way to dip your toes in the water.

If a "hub" is required, it will be zigbee or zwave..matter in the future. I prefer zigbee as I have a samsung smarthings station which is moving towards "edge" drivers, which processes commands locally. That's faster and doesn't require internet. So far it's a decent hub. It does zigbee and matter and is also a wireless charging station. Has a button on it you can set for shortcuts.

Note that brand specific hubs tend to be more feature filled, like wake up lights and such. The smarthing hub is sort of like a jack of all trades as you generally can't use a sengled hub to control hue bulbs and i'd rather have a single hub then multiple hubs from multiple vendors depending on what is on sale at the time.

Sengled bulbs tend to have coupons. The price on amazon is inflated..click through to the actual amazon product page and you'll usually see a 40% off coupon. Aside from wake up light functionality, I skip the sengled hubs and connect it to my smartthings station. If you have a big house, however, note that sengled bulbs are not zigbee repeaters and will not extend the range of a zigbee network.

Bulbs aren't cool unless you pair them with motion detectors.
