Nintendo still sells new Gamecube controllers for Ultimate (same as from Smash 4, but with the Ultimate logo), and you can get them slightly cheaper on amazon if you buy the Japanese import. The price fluctuates up and down, it was $40 a couple weeks ago.
AFAIK, the only differences of the new controllers are that the analog sticks seem to be slightly tighter, and the triggers feel slightly different. I think the quality varies about as much as original GC controllers. They're all decent and fine to play with, but occasionally you'll get lucky or unlucky.
I don't play competitive by any means, but I was reading that Phob is a brand you can't use competitively. Is that the case?
What makes the two different? (I mean the OG GC controller and the Phob ones)
Also, is this one you mentioned on amazon? https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Controller-Super-Smash-Bros-switch/dp/B07HC2F97Q/ref=sr_1_2?crid=L7TGE2UZDF7B&keywords=smash+ultimate+gamecube+controller&qid=1672238321&sprefix=%2Caps%2C259&sr=8-2
and is this the phob you're talking about? https://sagecustomcontrollers.com/products/dyed-gamecube-controller?variant=41291838816309
Thanks for the insight on this yo.
The japan import ultimate controller on amazon is probably your best bet https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Controller-Super-Smash-Bros-switch/dp/B07HC2F97Q/
You can also look on ebay for used controllers
You'll also need an adapter, I'd recommend the mayflash adapter. The official nintendo adapter works just as well but it's generally much more expensive.
Edit: The adapter is only needed if you want to play slippi. If you're only playing on console you don't need one.

wow thats the cheapest I've seen for a while. About a year ago I was looking and they were seemingly out of stock everywhere or there was price-gouging involved.
no but here's the amazon link for the controller =) https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Controller-Super-Smash-Bros-switch/dp/B07HC2F97Q/ref=sr_1_3?crid=463X5K7VXRVF&dchild=1&keywords=gamecube+controller&qid=1619591243&sprefix=gamecube+con%2Caps%2C413&sr=8-3
Why not just get the Japanese import on US amazon for $42?
Idk how y'all keep missing it, I see post's all the time asking about where to get controllers and this is like the 2nd link I always see when I search "GameCube Controller" on amazon.
Gamecube Controllers are $40, not $70. Cheapest they've been in years, get em while they're this low. Seriously, it's a good investment, they last practically forever.
You can get whatever controller you want, but I highly recommend just getting the brand new ones. They're great controllers filled with the best T3 parts, and if you want to customize you can always swap the shells. When you look at older controllers you should do a little research on what internals it has, T1, T2, or T3 (T1 stickboxes wear quickest, T3 last longest and are way easier to mod, repair, & maintain). Teal I believe can have any of the three versions so you'll have to check the markings on the back if you want to know which version. A teal T3 will have this dot etched into the back shell next to the CE. No dot with CE means T2, no dot no CE means T1.
And I recommend pairing it with a Mayflash adapter, they're cheap, but widely used in the community and works perfectly on all platforms, where some others don't play nicely with pc.
I have a Super Smash Bros Ultimate Controller you find it here on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Controller-Super-Smash-Bros-switch/dp/B07HC2F97Q/ref=sr_1_3?crid=463X5K7VXRVF&dchild=1&keywords=gamecube+controller&qid=1619591243&sprefix=gamecube+con%2Caps%2C413&sr=8-3 if you want another let's say color you can find it on ebay for maybe 60 bucks
No. It's this one
Nintendo Game Cube Controller Super Smash Bros. Black Japan Import https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HC2F97Q/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_D7MRECW2TDAZ06Z6VYXF
The black controllers are only $50 on Amazon in the US right now. The white controllers are probably more expensive because they haven't been made since the Wii days. You can also try your luck at used controllers.
Get the official one. Any third party, aside from the panda controller coming next year, is insanely inferior
Do not buy Amazon's "refurbished" controllers, they're not even Nintendo manufactured (they're third party crap). And besides, I'd never buy a used controller I couldn't at least see pictures of first.
Amazon does still sell brand new Nintendo controllers, why not just buy one of those? It says they're in stock July 8th.
I've also heard people buy from Amazon Japan's website, and also PlayAsia usually has new ones in stock.
Adapter for Wii U
Yeah guess they just rose the price. This is the link here. Yeah that's still a really good price considering they last a lifetime new.
IDK Where you live at but this is a good controller that will be in good condition. https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Controller-Super-Smash-Bros-switch/dp/B07HC2F97Q/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2VJR4C22IFXZE&keywords=game+controller+smash+4&qid=1643500315&sprefix=gamecontroller+smash+4%2Caps%2C60&sr=8-7
I've been using it for the last year. No problems whatso ever and its an official oem controller
I have this and the switch is easy enough as long as you're comfortable taking your controller apart. An OEM GameCube controller is only $42 right now too if you want to go that route.
good I have three, I'm no pro though.
Yeah, that's not true anymore. They're still being made in Japan. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HC2F97Q/
Amazon link, this is probably your best bet.
Or look on Ebay/craigslist/Facebook/Letgo for used controllers
There's only two Gamecube controllers I'd consider
The PowerA Gamecube wireless controller is basically a GC wireless controller. It connects via Bluetooth and detects as a Pro Controller so it can be used in any game that supports a Pro Controller, though you may want to remap buttons to your liking.
The one downside is that it is powered by replaceable batteries rather than by a rechargable lithium ion battery.
The other is the controller Nintendo releases for Smash. This is just basically a new pressing of the Gamecube controller. Has the GC plug, and you need a GC adapter to get it working on your Switch. In supported Switch titles, it'll detect as a Gamecube controller and it works pretty well in Smash, Cart, Animal Crossing...I'm sure it works in others too. And you can use it on your GC/Wii/Wii U (with adapter) as well.
There are a variety of licensed (from Hori or PowerA) and knockoff controllers online meant to imitate the GC style, but these are cheap imitations and IMO not worth considering.

Let me know if that doesn't work
