I’ve been using a Stratux for about 3 years, with very few issues. If you use the most recent V3 978 sdr, the internal GPS option works pretty well. If you use the older SDR’s, I had much better GPS reception with the external GPS.

Use a high quality power cable, although with the V3 SDR it is much more efficient.

Use a high quality Micro SD card. Some have had failures due in part (IMHO) to substandard SD cards.

I’ve built three or four of these now, for myself and friends, and have had almost zero problems. I use it every flight, even if just doing pattern work.

Edit to add: I’m seeing concerns with a separate battery. I’m using 3M Dual-lock to hold my battery to my case. Works great with 4 small pieces (a 1/2 cm at each corner). I’m also using a printed case based on some STL files on thingverse that allow the footprint to be more compact and fit conveniently in my flight bag.
