I use the Spigen Neo Hybrid Case, along with my Skinomi TechSkin screen protector.

I really liked the dimples on the back of the S5 and this case matches it exactly, but with a slightly different feel. The side buttons look metal, but they're made of plastic and are sturdy with the case on. All the ports line up well, except the top most left thing, but only very very slightly. There is enough room for the earphone jack plug-in, a good slant to take your pulse on the back, good room for your fingerprint, and the perfect amount of room for your finger to pop the charger cover out. I've dropped my phone already about 5 or 6 times from my lap in a truck/car to asphalt, and all that's happened is the plastic ring around the rubber case got scuffed a little.

I got the Skinomi screen cover because of the good reviews and the lifetime warranty. Plus this is my first new phone in over 4 years, previously had the Samsung Galaxy Captivate, and I've seen one too many people with cracked iPhones to not get a screen protector and a case.

I have the yellow version of this and it works very well.

And by the looks of the rest of the thread Spigen is the way to go.

I haven't used the tough armor case, but I do have the Spigen Neo Hybrid and recommend that. I picked it over the tough armor case due to it's thinner design giving it a bit more stylish look - I'm not into bulky cases (plus the way the back lies flat is really nice). Needless to say, the case has held up great, even through several drops and such. I don't know if having the most protection possible is a priority to you, but either way I recommend the Spigen series.

As a side note, a few of my friend have the tough armor case and it has worked well for them.

Edit: I know it's not <$15, but OP should really check it out. I absolutely love it, along with the screen protector.
