Excellent idea. An Emporia monitoring system is also an excellent idea. Basically the same thing but constant monitoring in real time. https://www.amazon.com/Emporia-Monitor-Circuit-Electricity-Metering/dp/B08CJGPHL9

I have an Emporia Vue monitor and I'm very happy with it. I got it to track how much energy our heat pump and EV use and it's been great for that. You can view energy consumption through their app or using a web browser. It does send all of your info to their centralized server and there's no "local only" way to run it that I know of.

In addition to general monitoring, it lets you set up alerts on circuits if the current draw stays above a set level for a set time. I often forget to turn off the lights in a room above the garage and now I get an alert if I do that.

Also, it supports smart outlets you can control directly through the app or with automatic timers.
