I used to just wear a backpack. The Deuter packs that have the frames usually also have a space for a bladder. Ditch the flask if you can.

If you have bulkier stuff that isn't backpack friendly, I'd look at something like this plus a bungee cargo net and whatever size Pelican case you need.
