Do not get a Surface Pro X!!!
It uses an ARM processor rather than the standard x86/x64 architecture that all Windows-base software runs on. You will likely run into many issues if you buy an X for work.
I would recommend getting a normal Surface Pro or Ultrabook from Lenovo or Dell.
Also, you need to define what type of things you are planning on doing with your computer: MS Office apps only, software development, CAD, photoshop, etc.

For any of these, I would highly recommend getting a dock, monitor, and a good keyboard/mouse. Having a traditional workstation will greatly improve your productivity. Laptops are great on the go but when you are home, having a dedicated workspace is a game-changer.
