this is known fondly amongst some of my friends as "noahs ark tape"
There is also a more extreme version:
I have my Uniden DFR6 mounted above my rearview mirror with some Scotch Extreme mounting tape. The white tape in the pic didn't hold for long, but the Extreme tape is holding up well after several months. I used a hardwire kit and wired it into fuse box in the passenger footwell. There's a good post on the focusst.org forums showing how to run the wire and which fuse to tap.
