You could use a USB hub and take the audio over the usb connection (with a sound card/DAC and capture it thru some other device) and video goes over the HDMI/Capture Card. It's a bit cumbersome but if nothing works you can use this.
Example:
Edit:
Audio goes from USB Hub to SoundCard to Cable to USB Audio converter to PC.
On the soundcard, you can use the headset port for in-game chat, the headphone port to connect audio to the USB audio converter.
Video goes from the USB C hub to HDMI cable to Capture Card to PC.
Getting Google Now ("OK Google") to work with a USB DAC: If you are in FI mode and you are using Behringer UCA202 as the DAC (which works great, btw, with the Nexus 7 - I highly recommend), then you will need to connect an external microphone for any voice commands to work, such as for Google Now ("OK Google") or AutoVoice. The UCA202 has two input RCA jacks but you cannot connect a mic directly to those jacks because the output signal from the mic is too low. You will need to run your external mic through a preamp to bring the signal up to line level and then into the input jacks on the UCA202. Then it works just fine. At this time, Amazon sells a very small mic with a built-in preamp for only $7 called, "VideoSecu High Sensitive Audio Pickup Device External Amplified Tiny Spy Microphone for CCTV Security Camera." Catchy name, eh? It works great with the UCA202. There are two lines coming from the mic that you have to connect. You connect the red line to a 12V power source (I had to do some creative wiring because the plug that comes with the mic is made for a security camera.). Then connect the white line from the mic to either of your input jacks on the UCA202 - either jack will do, you don't need to use both of the input jacks if the mic is only for inputting voice commands. That's it. The mic is very sensitive for picking up your voice over car/road noise and is so small that it's easily hidden on your dash. Hope this helps.

And the OTG cable you'll need to connect the DAC to the Nexus 7 and power source: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EB70PXA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I just use a $30 DAC that powers both my headphones and speakers so that I can use both or just one of them at a time. This prevents having to change the output in software because it is all over one usb input into the computer. Also improves sound quality. You can buy much higher quality DACS and many editors do, but on a budget this one works just fine.
I recommend the behringer uca202 (the uca222 is the same in red) if you only want to use it for simple monitoring/recording/listen with headphones. the sound quality you get good and you don't get anything better for this price. https://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA202-BEHRINGER-U-CONTROL/dp/B000KW2YEI you can use this cable for stereo input https://www.amazon.com/Generic-F8V235-12-3-5mm-cable-12-Feet/dp/B000067RBT
Do you already have a turntable?
How to record vinyl:
A few USB options:
Or turntable > Phono USB Interface > Laptop.
Or there are $100+ options.
The albums are not available digitally or streaming?
Son is too young for his own starter automatic or manual turntable and some used less than VG condition duplicate albums you don't mind some possible scratches on?
$129 turntables on sale for $49:
Plus $57 Bestian powered speakers with Bluetooth.
I've decided not go get a capture card as it was really just to solve an audio out issue. I'll get a simple USB-dac instead https://www.amazon.com/BEHRINGER-U-Control-Low-Latency-Interface-Digital/dp/B000KW2YEI
the audio 2 DJ interface, what does it do?
I'm completely out of my range here. is it for splitting the audio output into 4 channels? if so, would this do?:http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-UCA202-Audio-%0AInterface/dp/B000KW2YEI/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1322396456&sr=1-1
