I have a spare battery with the charger, it actually comes with your phone here in SK. For extended train rides and flights, I just picked up this:

AnkerĀ® 2nd Gen Astro E3 Ultra Compact 10000mAh Portable Charger Ex... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009USAJCC/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_BDDVub097KT5M

Can you offer any insight as to why? I use these and these both of which appear to be much higher quality than the stock cable and charged my phone at full speed before Lollipop. I often use this to charge my phone on the go but its basically worthless now.

I have this: http://www.amazon.com/Compact-10000mAh-Portable-External-Technology/dp/B009USAJCC my gf has the 3000 lipstick model. They both work really well. Remember that whatever capacity battery you buy, you're only going to get around 75% of what they claim do to heat and inefficiency, that is normal. Remember to factor in charge times. The model I have, the 10k will take 10 or 12 hours with a regular cell phone charger to fill, around six hours with a tablet charger. The 3k model is small, here it is on amazon http://www.amazon.com/Compact-10000mAh-Portable-External-Technology/dp/B009USAJCC

It will give you a full charge, whereas the 10k will give you like 3.5 charges.

Edit edit: and also, remember to check output rates on chargers. The 3k one I linked charges your phone slowly, the 10k charges your phone quickly.

There was a pretty big thread about this in /r/Android the other day. Is an external battery pack out of the question, or are you just looking for a more integrated look?

For half the price of the Mophie you can get a external battery back that will charge your device several times.

Anker 10000mAh $39.99

AnkerĀ® 2nd Gen 12000mAh $49.99

I considered the Mophie as well when I was looking for a little extra boost through the day, and found that the battery pack fits nicely into the pocket, and allows me to keep the choice of case, or lack there of. I own the 12000mAh one that I linked to, and it allows me to charge anything USB powered, which is fantastic, as it won't be a dead weight trying to sell it when the time comes to move on to another device.

If he plays Pokemon Go, get him a cool battery charger for his phone. Regular ones are $10 on Amazon. There are some that look like pokeballs, and while they're cool looking, they are kind of cumbersome.

this one has lots of juice.

I trust Anker since I had one of their batteries for my old phone. Personally, I would consider getting this since it has a much larger capacity.
