Not at all. I have an Ortlieb pannier with a quick lock system. The rails of the Ibera are thin enough for the Ortlieb QL hooks to attach. I have another bike with rear rack rails that are too thick for the Ortlieb’s hooks.

The only caveat is, while the rear light on the RadMission is still visible with the rack installed, placing a milk crate or other bag on the top of the rack will impede its visibility. You’d have to separately buy an extender.

Thanks so much for all the help. If drop bar bikes aren't great for novices then I may jump on the FX 2 tomorrow - you think it'll be fine for my purposes? Seems to have great reviews on reddit & elsewhere.

I was going to get this for my phone, and then a frame and a bag for carrying some snacks, bike repair tools, rain gear, etc. For all these items, do you think it's fine to go for Amazon items with great reviews? Our local bike store prepared a quote in which two bikes summed to $1,200, but then added on ~10 other items to bring the total cost to $2,700...I found almost all of these extras on Amazon for a significantly better price. For example, they wanted a $135 for a bike headlight, while there's multiple with great reviews on Amazon for under $20 (and we aren't even going to be riding at night, but wanted some lights for a few tunnels on the trail).

My mother and girlfriend are going to be meeting us each night at the next hotel, so we have the logistics part down. I was planning on leaving them with a bike pump and other heavy repair gear since they'll be at most 50 miles away at any given time, but haven't fully thought that out yet.

Thanks again, really appreciate it!

I went with this one that's like $2 cheaper, with this compatible bag. Super easy to install and they've both been solid.

I have a Zizzo Urbano which is extremely similar to the Liberte, and I use this rack. It sits roughly 5-6" above the wheel, which isn't too bad.

I could post a pic tomorrow if you'd like to see it.

I recently researched racks for a tour to go with my Ortlieb back roller classic bags and went with this.

It took a little playing around to adjust the bag clips until I had something secure, but I think that's the norm, and I'm happy with it. This is also the only rack/panniers I've used so I don't have other points of comparison.

I'd consider one of the ones with adjustable legs and swap to longer rods. Like this Ibera one https://www.amazon.com/Ibera-Bike-Rack-Frame-Mounted-Adjustable/dp/B00DWKUAZK/
