I saw this recommended in another thread... never tried it myself tho.

Sorry for the late response!
I put luggage racks on first and then just strapped the saddlebags to them. I did cut off most of the straps from the saddlebags and completely cut off the material that connects the two bags together. The racks went on pretty easily, just had to add one spacer. Here are the racks and saddlebags that I used:

Windshield and handguards are amazon specials that just bolted straight to the handlebars. The windshield worked amazingly well and was very easy to install. I would %100 recommend it. The handguards were a slight pain to put on and were almost too small. The brake a clutch levers just come in contact with the guards when they are fully released. They will get the job done, but I would search for something else. I also had to put a piece of PVC pipe at the end of my handlebars to keep the handguards from pressing against the grips and keeping the throttle from releasing. Here are the links for the windshield and handguards:

I put on heated grips and strapped on a fender bag as well. Was able to fit two spare tubes in the fender bag, and only had to use one of them haha. Put on some fog lights as well if you are adventuring. I upgraded all of my lights to LEDs (headlights, blinkers, and tail lights). That helped a bunch, but the headlight is still not great. So I put on some aux lights as well.

As far as mechanical issues. I had one flat tire and my rear wheel bearing went out twice. I also had to do a valve adjustment about halfway through the trip. Not %100 sure why one of the rear bearings kept going out. My guess is the bike was heavily overloaded, the weights that I put on the rear tire to balance it ended up falling off, and the chain tension kept changing when I would change how much weight was on the bike. I would just recommend spending a good amount of time messing with the chain tension under different loads and be sure to balance your tires. Use the spoke weights, not the stick-on ones like I used. And I would buy a set or two of wheel bearings. They are cheap but can be hard to find if you are in the middle of nowhere. Also, think about getting some type of jack arm so that you can take your tire off on the side of the raod. That turned out to be a huge pain.
The seat cover helps a little, but yeah... After a few hours of riding it was pretty brutal. We would stop every hour and walk around, but that only helped so much. Some days we would ride for 6 hours or so and by the end of the day, we were both more than ready to get off the bikes. (My buddy was on a KLR 650 and his seat wasn't much better). With that said, it wasn't too horrible or anything. Definitely not worth holding off on a trip or anything. Suck it up and go. The pain really wasn't that bad haha.
If you can do the upgrade to a KLR 650 shock and spring, I would recommend that. But I wouldn't let that stop you either. Just pack as light as possible. For sure get an extra gallon fuel can to strap onto the back. I would also highly recommend upgrading the lights to LEDs. You do have to change out the blinker realy, but everything else is plug and play. Here are the lights and relay that I used:

I also wish I would have put on larger footpegs and raised the handlebars before going. Again, don't let that stop you though!
Hope that helps out!
