Honestly this isn't a good idea for a case. For one thing, you want your case to be made from softer materials that absorb impact rather than hard ones which will simply transfer the impact forces into your phone. So silicone and plastic cases are the best for actual impact protection.
Personally I use the Spigen ToughArmor case here since it provides excellent protection as well as a built in kickstand and gives a lip around the sides of the screen that prevents it from registering your palms as touch input. Also it has a sound funnel on the top that redirects some of the audio from the top firing speaker forward so you can hear it better. It's pretty slim compared to other cases that offer the same level or lower of protection, and it's easy to get on and off if you want to remove it for any reason.
And it's an American company, if that kind of thing matters to you. I've been using their cases for the last 6 phones I've owned and never had a problem. I've dropped my phones several times and never had a cracked screen since I put these cases on them, so it may be luck but I think the design really does make a difference versus a lot of other cases out there.
