Amplification:
Add WiFi streaming audio with voice or app control plus Bluetooth for $19 by connecting an Echo Dot via a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
Which model powered speakers?
Bluetooth Receiver $28.
Or WiFi Streaming with voice or app control + Bluetooth:
The receiver may be last after the speakers and cartridge and styuls to make a difference. However a vintage receiver may sound dull after 20+ years as the capacitors can dry out possibly more so in a hot attic. A service and capacitors recapped as needed may cost more than the receiver is worth unless it's mid to high end or you safely do it yourself. The built in phono preamp may be decent to start with. An external $99+ phono preamp such as the iFi Zen AIR Phono should be better. Connect it to one of the other inputs, not the Phono input on the receiver.
If you do want to try new probably better amplification:
For your Yamaha or any amp or receiver option without Bluetooth, optionally add both WiFi streaming with voice control and Bluetooth by connecting a Wiim Mini or Pro with Airplay 2 or the Pro adds Chromecast or a lower cost Echo Dot.
The Onkyo AV receiver will work well enough for stereo music. It's older 1080HD HDMI however it does have a digital optical input to take audio from a 4K TV if you also want to use it with a TV in addition to the turntable. If getting the RT82 connect a phono preamp between the turntable and receiver. Optionally connect a $19 Echo Dot for both WiFi streaming and Bluetooth.
The Sony tower speakers are entry level but decent enough to start with.
Speakers that would be an upgrade from the Sony and up to the level of the RT82 turntable:
Well no new Echos with the puck design, but if you still want a gen 3 Dot, Amazon has them on sale right now for $14.99, which is the lowest price ever.

EDIT: Or for $2.98 extra get the Philips Hue white bulb included.
https://www.amazon.com/Echo-Dot/dp/B0BGZ6QYKP
Not bad for a regular $25 bulb
If you want WiFi streaming audio and Bluetooth for any of the receivers or amps that don't have it then connect a $19 Echo Dot with voice or app control. Or Wiim Mini or Pro add Airplay 2 and Siri and the Pro adds those plus Chromecast and Google Assistant.

Spotify 320 is more than sufficient.
WiFi Streamer with a built in DAC:
An alternative to Bluetooth is direct WiFi streaming with voice or app control to connect to the Onkyo stereo receiver:
Echo Dot $25 with Alexa. I just tell it to play what music or radio station I want.
Wiim Mini $95 has Apple Airplay 2 and Siri.
I think both have Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music or other services or any radio station around the world.
We use the repeat alarm on the iPhone but phones can be lost, played with by kids, left in cars and get dead batteries, etc. A better option is the Amazon Echo Dot it is a really good personal assistant, pill reminder, for appointments and I recommend you get both! Keeping the pills safe is the tricky part try a drawer lock some are list here. Nightstand drawer locks. Take care!
301 and 82 are good.

Many powered speakers have Bluetooth built in.
If you get a receiver or amp or powered speakers that do not have Bluetooth built in then you can connect a small $20 Bluetooth receiver to them or even better a $15 Alexa Echo Dot for better WiFi streaming with voice or app control and it's also a Bluetooth receiver.
What are you looking to buy?
Turntables and speakers starting at $83 and $79.
If you ever want to add Bluetooth to the speakers for streaming audio connect a Bluetooth receiver. Or Echo Dot and Wiim Mini or Pro all add WiFi streaming with voice or app control as well as Bluetooth.

You are looking for better sound quality?
Which model speakers and where are they all located?
If they are basic entry level then a speaker upgrade will usually make the most difference for better sound quality.
For stereo music ideally just a pair of good quality speakers with good speaker placement with speakers on speaker stands or floor standing tower speakers. The AV receiver should have a 2 speaker stereo setting.
If you want to play music from a hard drive that is connected to you computer and your computer is not near or is in a nearby room to the AV receiver you could get a 2.4Ghz wireless audio transmitter and receiver that is easy setup plug and play, no Bluetooth or WiFi to configure.
For streaming music for the AV receiver connect an Echo Dot or Wiim Mini or Pro with Apple Airplay 2 for both WiFi streaming audio with voice or app control and Bluetooth.
What are Sonyo 8260 or 8220? I can't find any info on them. Links?
You want the radio tuner because you are in Portland? Or streaming raido is an option.
Integrated amp with a separate radio tuner for local radio or connect an Echo Dot or a Wiim Mini or Pro with Airplay 2 or Chromecast for streaming WiFi radio with voice control from any station in the world.
Or lower cost stereo receiver
Good price for a used $350 AT-LP120X and used $140 speakers for a total $500 value if you want compact 4" mid bass driver speakers for a small room or desktop setup. A new AT-VMN95E stylus is $50 if you need to replace the stylus now or later. Optionally add WiFi streaming and Bluetooth to the speakers by connecting a $25 Echo Dot.
Or for around $110 more a new turntable with a new stylus, a solid MDF plinth, lower wow and flutter plus a warranty. Plus 4" speakers that add Bluetooth or larger 5.25" speakers for a medium size room.
Turntable: AT-LPW30TK $329 $199.
Powered speakers with audio cable input for the turntable plus Bluetooth for streaming digital music:
I have ordered hundreds of things from Amazon and on average it's always at least two weeks. Take an Echo Dot for example. If I order today it says it will come Jan 3`1st.
What does it list as a delivery day for you?
Speakers:
Dual 5.25" Polk $95 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/737720421380339 listed 3 weeks ago...
Or the under $200 new speakers I listed.
2 channel stereo receivers instead of the basic 5 channel Sony AV receiver:
Next step up integrated amp is 2 steps up from the basic Sony AV receiver:
Optionally add WiFi streaming and Bluetooth to your Sony or any of the above by connecting an Echo Dot or the Wiim Mini adds Apple Airplay 2.
The 5.25" Neumi are a size larger for a medium to large size room so they may have a bit more impact and may sound a bit better.
The 4" Edifier R1280DBs $129 for a small room or desktop do have an RCA subwoofer output to later connect a powered subwoofer for lower bass than speakers are capable of producing.
The lower cost Edifier R1280T version doesn't have Bluetooth or you can optionally connect a $15 Echo Dot for better WiFi streaming with voice or app control and it's also a Bluetooth receiver.
RCA switch, stereo preamp, mixer, or a monitor controller.
How do you currently control the volume of both monitors?
Schiit Sys is a 2 input passive preamp with volume control for the studio monitors.
Echo Dot has 3.5mm output to connect a 3.5mm to RCA cable. Besides WiFi audio streaming with voice or app control it's also a Bluetooth receiver.
Wiim Mini or Pro adds Apple Airplay 2 with Siri, Pro adds Google Chromecast and Assistant.
Tested?
The Sony STR-AV770 does have a bunch of line level inputs to test the receiver and speakers with other audio sources.
Smartphone, tablet or computer > 3.5mm to RCA audio cable > Sony receiver for example.
Or connect a simple wire antenna to the Sony to use the radio tuner.
Or a $20 Bluetooth receiver with included audio cable or $15 Echo Dot WiFi streaming audio receiver with voice or app control and it's also a Bluetooth receiver plus a 3.5mm to RCA cable.
A small $20 Bluetooth receiver can be adding to most any amp or receiver that goes not have it built in.
Or a $20 Echo Dot has WiFi streaming with voice or app control as well as Bluetooth.
Or Wiim Mini or Pro adds Airplay 2 with Siri and the Pro adds Google and Chromecast.

What is a nearby town or zip to search for used speaker options?
Consider starting with a good stereo setup and adding the turntable later:
If you must get the turntable now, lowest budget decent new speakers and digital mini amp: 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Pair and Hi-Fi Mini Amplifier Bundle $65. Then later upgrade one part at a time.
Or a bit better digital mini amp and speakers:
Or for a small room 4" Edifier digital amp powered starter speakers however you can't later upgrade one part at a time. New S adds subwoofer out jack:
Guides:
Yep, Insignia Turntable $129 $59 plus $49+ powered speakers is a great entry level budget setup.
You're welcome.
No room to stack a class A/B amp or receiver under the turntable with a riser shelf or turntable stand?
The NAD D 3020 V2 $349+ is a very good class D amp.
(I have a refurbished class A/B NAD C316BEE V2 from the same store)
Or more class D compact options are OSD Audio and Echo Link Amp.
Or there are many lower cost Chi-Fi class D amps, connect a phono preamp to any one:
Or hybrid class D / tube amps:
Or a compact tube amp:
If anything does not have Bluetooth or WiFi streaming you can add both by connecting a $19 Echo Dot with voice or app control. Or the Wiim Mini or Pro have Airplay 2 and Siri and the Pro adds Chromecast and Google Assistant.
Plenty good to start with. Maybe upgrade the amp later. What is a nearby town or zip code I can search for used speaker options? Reply here or chat.
Technics SU-V96 is an integrated amp that powers passive speakers and has a built in phono preamp via the Phono input. A stereo receiver adds a built in radio tuner. An AV receiver adds a radio tuner, HDMI and 5 or more channels for TV surround sound.
Turntable > phono input to the built in phono preamp on the integrated amp > passive speakers.
Also connect a ground wire from the turntable to the integrated amp.
Install a new stylus once you confirm everything is working if you don't know how worn the used styuls is.
The graphic equalizer is optional, not necessary. The radio tuner is optional if you won't be listening to radio. I use a $15 Alexa Echo Dot for radio and music streaming with voice or app controlled connected to may integrated amp and it's also a Bluetooth receiver.
Okay, lets do a test. When does Amazon say they expected delivery date is for this Echo Dot:?
For me it lists Jan 31st using Amazon Prime shipping to Hawaii if I get it today.
