If I connect it to the board, what software / how would I know what software would be compatible with it for configuration? (assuming I would be able to use software to change colors etc)

If I can't use software, that's fine. As long as it turns on when PC boots up, and saves the most recent color it had

I believe the one I'm looking at (here) is powered to the wall. How would that work though?

I will not be making my own. Are most LED strips built to power on/off with the PC? I wasn't sure if that was an assumption or if I need to pick one that works that way

I'm not too picky on control, any of them work, but I think if I had a preference, it'd be (in order): phone app > physical remote > desktop app. Wifi strongly preferred over bluetooth since I assume I'd have to turn bluetooth on frequently? Or does it just have to connect once? IIRC bluetooth is also faster?

My desk is exactly 4 feet long, so I'll either have to find a strip short enough, or be able to cut it

I didn't know about all those options, thank you for letting me know! After some research, here's my findings:

  • don't need waterproof
  • don't need voice control or smart device compatible (like alexa)
  • can't cut RGBIC? my desk is
  • RGBIC blends better & more fluid (independent control)
  • no need to change the strip color in segments - I'll either want to have it all 1 color, or rainbow. white light slider is ideal for when I want to use white
  • static / no pulse is fine, maybe a very slow light pulse if anything, but I wouldn't pick a fast pulse
  • RGB allows for only 1 color across the strip? i.e. no rainbow if I wanted that
  • RGBW has 1 additional white LED chip
  • RGBWW has a 2nd white LED chip that contributes a warm white color instead of the cool white in RGBW
  • if possible, I would like something that's either not obnoxiously bright, or has a brightness setting
  • it seems like GOVEE is the way to go
  • *** least fire risk. I don't know if this is a valid concern or something worth being worried about, but I feel like any negative review I've seen has been from the led's burning or catching fire

So far I think I'm between RGBWW and RGBIC. Unless I can either find an RGBIC that I can cut, or find a strip that matches my desk length, I think I'll end up going with RGBWW. What do you think? Are my findings pretty accurate?

* Also one of the main features I want, is to have it turn on when my PC turns on, if that's a reasonable request

Update: It looks like I can't (shouldn't) cut RGBIC, so I think my best option is RGBWW. I actually can't really find one on amazon, do you have one to recommend for me? Or should I just buy it off govee website (I assume is more pricy). I only found this one but there's so few reviews?
