You really need 2 devices. One for wet grinding, for which you need a tabletop grinder. Ultra Dura+ is my recommendation. I have a Vitamix and Sumeet and they just do not cut it. But since you are starting, you can hold off this expense.
Second, you need a smaller dry spice grinder. You can actually just buy a $20 Cuisinart one cup spice grinder. It works just fine, and you will find yourself using it more than any other device.
Or you can get a larger Indian brand grinder that works with US voltages. Most are good and 500+ watts are plenty, although 1hp or 750w is always better. Avoid US brands, their blades are not suitable. Lot of people buy Preethi. Sumeet is too fidgety. My personal favorite is Butterfly Desire. It has a 1hp (750w) motor, the containers are very well built and look good too, and are easy to snap on. And the motor is powerful enough to make small batches of batter too, although no mixer is going to come remotely close to a tabletop grinder.
But like i said, you will find yourself using your $20 mini grinder than any other device!
