TP-Link USB WiFi Adapter for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IFXQFU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
If you do, go to the main menu and download them from the “updates & downloads” section. I am currently using es-theme-simple.
Alright so this chip is not compatible out of the box in Linux, there is a driver for it installable for GNU/Linux but Android lacks the tools necessary to install it. Your best bet is to grab a little USB wifi dongle. The TP Link N150 is reported in reviews as working well out of the box in the past, you can always just search in any Amazon page for Linux out of the box support - chances are someone has asked in the Q&A.
Buy a few different usb wifi adapters and keep them for occassions like this. They can get you through the install, logged in, and online so that you can look into loading drivers for your less well supported hardware.
Here's an example that should work with the debian non-free firmware installer:

I use these with a Raspberry Pi to create a router. Doesn’t give the best distance but it has been reliable.
I bought this TP Link dongle and it works with the stock image of Retro Arena. I'm mainly using it to scrape box art.
hmm maybe it's not compatible. this is the wifi adapter i use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hBbbDb28GTBGM
You could just buy this: http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN725N-Wireless-Adapter-150Mbps/dp/B008IFXQFU/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1437883078&sr=1-1&keywords=USB+Wifi
And plug it in to your PC. There's a good chance it'll just automatically install and work. Provided you're on something like Windows Vista/7/8/10
Thanks for the response. Right now wireless is the only option I have, there are no network cables coming down here. I'm not sure what you mean by network plugs coming through the electrical wiring.
So I have a laptop which I'm using to type to you which has built in wireless, and it functions ok, sometimes crazy spikes of lag but for the most part ok.
My PC is using this and its pretty much useless in terms of getting a stable connection. I'm concerned that its wireless reach is not strong enough to reach through the ceiling to where the router is.
Ideally I'd like to get my PC connected as I use it for most of my day to day work/play.
I own 7 of those they all work .
