I absolutely love these trojan sawhorse legs. They’re pricey but so ridiculously strong, versatile, and mobile.

Otherwise I’d go the 2x4 route. I’ve used a couple sets of the same 2x4 horses over loads of job sites, they get rode hard, put up wet, and keep standing fine (with occasional refastening).

I like to take the extra time to build the legs with compound miter ends so they’ll splay out all four directions. I fix those to a 2x4 crossbar, and put a longer 2x6 on top of that, as a sacrificial piece and so i have an easier edge all around to clamp to.
