I can! It's an enormous gate as we have an open floor plan and a fireplace. But the panels disconnect. We have it on hardwood; there are screws to tighten to the floor but our 19 month old can push it at the point fatheat away from the walls. We did screw it into the wall on either side. If you're looking for something smaller, I'd still recommend this brand! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VNKLIY/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_undefined?linkCode=ml2&tag=themyershaus-20

Is the oven a target because it’s easy to scale? Can you remove the handles? It’s probably just a few screws (then open the oven with your careful grownup oven mitts.) Removing the handle makes the oven WAY harder to open (yay physics!) Though, you will still need to safeguard when the oven is hot.

We had a fabrication shop while our kids were small and did a LOT of barricading of dangers instead of the kid with the mega-long gates.

I did a lot of baby backpack wearing while doing stuff (not oven/stove, but food prep, gardening, on the greasy/sharp thing filled shop floor, or at my desk. They could watch, but we’re restrained.) Removing the mystery and novelty those “off limits” areas makes them boring, and less enticing.

I quit using our oven for maybe 6 months when our son was at that age and relied on a toaster oven, we kept the chairs up so they couldn’t be used to climb… or I would scoot all the chairs together and let him climb his heart out on the “private island.” Cater the distraction to his personality (does he pretend play, prefer a game/challenge, like secret forts, is food/sensory driven?)

Play dough knives cut soft food… cheese sticks, hot dogs, bananas. Keep steamed veggies in the fridge for him to mash, “decorate” with the baby puffs that you can lick and stick to stuff… I lowered my standards after kid #2 and messy activities were used as a “treat” to contain and distract while I worked or got stuff done.

I designed a 3d-printed magnetic baby gate mount to attach a baby gate to the fridge or other metal appliance, if that helps, I can post the file and teach you how to order one from a printing service if you want. It worked with the linked gate below. We Don’t have a functioning printer anymore… BEEFY rare earth magnets made it strong enough that my “lady linebacker” shoulders had to work to relive the magnetic attachment.
