Yeah, make sure it's charged. Try to test it with a phone. The way it splits into two looks gimmicky, I suspect you have a bad mic or something isn't plugged in right. You might want to send it back for an exchange.
If you can't do a Rode Video Micro, this alternative has good reviews: Movo VXR10 Universal Video Microphone with Shock Mount, Deadcat Windscreen, Case for iPhone, Android Smartphones, Canon EOS, Nikon DSLR Cameras and Camcorders https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0723D3FVL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ZDdMDb5BMNV1V
This is an even cheaper mic, a bit larger, but it's surprisingly good, rivals the original Rode VideoMic: TAKSTAR SGC-598 Interview Microphone for Nikon/Canon Camera/DV Camcorder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E58AA0I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KGdMDbNG7HMBK
Not OP but thanks for such an informative comment. However, I’m now worried I’ll be lacking in the sound department.
I’m gearing up to make a short film on my iPhone 11 Pro. I purchased a shotgun mic from Amazon which will plug into the filming iPhone and then I plan to put a lav on each of my two actors (capturing dialogue audio onto their own iPhones).
What do you think of this setup?
This is the shotgun mic by the way:

And the lav:

the tow hook location definitely gives off that feel for sure. I added links above to some clips of each camera location.
on my ST I used the ADF Customs tow hook kit with a Raceseng tow loop + gopro mount any solid mount on the crash bar should work fine though to keep the camera from shaking too much.
I also swapped to an external mic on the rear bumper with one of these mounts tapped into the lower valance using a power/audio splitter cable and modified battery side door
Something like this will dramatically improve your audio shotgun mic
