Real Demerara sugar is rare anymore, let alone at retail. Gyana has reduced cane production dramatically in recent decades. Almost all of what is labeled "Demerara" comes from Mauritius, Malawi, or Columbia, not Gyana. Amazon lists some real Demerara. Specialty/gourmet shops may carry it. Turbinado is an acceptable substitute. In fact, the Sugar Association groups them together interchangeably. There are several brands that simply offer "natural cane sugar" or "Unrefined Natural Pure Cane Sugar". There are also the even more unrefined options of piloncillo, panela, muscovado, etc.
