The Fluance RT82 for $300 is a good value. For the price of the RT85 you can get the better new improved Pro-ject Debut Carbon EVO.

For the best value what is a nearby town or zip to search for used options?

Pass on the digitally controlled amp powered Fluance speakers if you want an all analog setup for analog vinyl.

Analog stereo receiver: Sony STR-DH190 $149 with Bluetooth and a built in phono stage preamp with adjustable gain.

Or if there is also a TV in the room, an AV receiver: Denon AVR-S650H-R $399 $329 with a built in phono stage preamp.

Speakers deals:

Floor standing towers and you don't need to buy or build speaker stands:

Or 5x speakers for the AV receiver:

Or 3x speakers for the AV receiver: Best to get the matching center speaker while it is available. Add most any brand side surrounds later, they don't need to match the front speakers brand or model line.

Plus OFC Speaker Wire or cheaper Basic CCA then How to Install Speaker Wire and How To Strip Speaker Wire.

Subwoofer to add now or later:

Better Bozak phono preamp. Or get a Pyle if you must be under $20.

Turntable > RCA cable > phono preamp > RCA cable > speaker amp > speaker wire > passive speakers.

Or turntable > RCA cable > stereo receiver with a built in phono preamp via the Phono input and Bluetooth > speaker wire > passive speakers.

Hi, I am new to the audiophile world and am struggling to understand how everything works. My biggest issue has been finding a receiver within my budget.

I am looking at buying this particular receiver as it is firmly within my budget and from a brand I recognize. However, I am curious, if this is just a two channel speaker, what is the advantage of having 4 speakers attached to it if they are in the same room? Fuller sound? I was thinking of getting two bookshelf speakers to go with this receiver but would there be an advantage to getting two other types of speakers to compliment them? Let me know if what I am asking doesn't make sense. I am just trying to get an affordable setup to play records and Amazon Music from.

Are there any suggestions as to a better receiver that is around the same price? Bonus if it has bluetooth and would also allow me to plug my TV into it (I know that is asking alot but I just genuinly don't know).

Turntable: Audio Technica at-lp3bk $200 https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-LP3BK-Automatic-Belt-Drive-Turntable/dp/B01N6YK1GA

Receiver: Sony str-dh190 $168 https://www.amazon.com/Sony-STRDH190-Stereo-Receiver-Bluetooth/dp/B078WFDR8D/

Or

Yamaha R-S202 $200 https://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-Audio-R-S202BL-Stereo-Receiver/dp/B01EMQI2CU/

Speakers: Wharfedale diamond 220 $250 https://www.amazon.com/Wharfedale-5025941156901-Diamond-220-Walnut/dp/B00TYN3EUC

Add a sub for some extra oomph $70 https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-108248-60-Watt-Powered-Subwoofer/dp/B009GUTJ34/

You could go cheaper with a small class d amp like the fosi tb10d or bt20a pro and a pair on Neumi bs5. I would only recommend this for a desktop or bedroom.

Bare minimum would be the Insignia turntable from bestbuy and a pair of edifier r1280t powered speakers.

Fine to start with if you already have the Panasonic CD micro system and it works well enough.

The speakers are inexpensive basic entry level so they are a sound quality bottleneck for the turntable and records. A speaker upgrade will give you better sound quality that the turntable and records are capable of providing. However you will need to also replace the main Panasonic CD micro system component.

New options:

Powered speakers:

Or separate amp or receiver and passive speaker upgrade:

Amplification:

  • Fosi Audio BL20A $68 mini amp with Bluetooth and a subwoofer output. 3.5mm input instead of RCA output so use the correct cable or adapter.
  • Sony STR-DH190 $199 $149 stereo receiver with Bluetooth.
  • Onkyo TX-8220 $199 stereo receiver with Bluetooth adds RCA output and a digital optical input.

Passive speakers:

Or floor standing towers, then you don't need to buy or build speaker stands:

Plus speaker wire, pure copper oxygen free 16 AWG or optional thicker 14 AWG. Then How To Strip Speaker Wire and How to Install Speaker Wire.

Turntables on sale:

  • AT-LP120XUSB $349 $192.
  • AT-LPW30TK $329 $136 adds a solid MDF plinth and has lower wow and flutter. Includes a good stylus to start with or optionally install the $49 AT-VMN95E to have the same stylus as the AT-LP120X.

If you don't want a full size stereo receiver such as a Sony STR-DH190 then a mini amp is an option. A few of many $100+ options are Aiyima A08, Fosi 2120, SMSL SA300. Or lower cost Fosi Audio BL20A $68 has 3.5mm input instead of RCA output so use the correct cable or adapter.

Plus passive speakers:

RT83 > PA10 > Edifier R1280DBs will work however the $150 speakers will be a sound quality bottleneck for the $350 turntable. Ideally spend just as much or more on the speakers as on the turntable or buy used for half the cost.

If you must start with the low budget Edifiers then consider a later upgrade to better and often larger passive speakers and an amp or stereo receiver. Then move the Edifiers to your desk for computer speaker duty or another room for a pair of Bluetooth speakers. Or you could even start with lower cost Edifier R33BT $79 or Insignia $79 if that is your plan to later upgrade to better speakers up to or past the quailty of the RT83 turntable.

No, that's just a DAC. A receiver can be hooked up directly to passive speakers because it has amplification circuitry inside meant to drive speakers.

This is an example of a reciever.

The older RT81 is not worth buying anymore since the newer improved Fluance RT82 for $50 more adds a $100 increase in performance and component value since it adds the new optical sensor speed controlled motor for much lower wow and flutter and speed variation and the speed won't drift since the sensor is monitoring the speed 400 times a second. Includes the OM10 cartrdige that is just as good as the newer version 2M Red. Pass on the RT83 since the cartridge is not any better.

Fluance RT82 $299 + Technolink $49 phono preamp is a step up from the basic $15 value phono preamp built into the RT81 + Klipsch KD-400 $329 $159 powered speakers on sale with analog RCA input for the turntable and phono preamp, USB input for a computer, digital optical input for a computer or TV, Bluetooth for streaming audio, and a subwoofer output.

A lower cost better value option is AT-LPW30TK $249 $175 with built in phono preamp + Klipsch KD-400 $329 $159.

Or the automatic AT-LP3 $249 $125 with built in phono preamp + Klipsch KD-400 $329 $159.

Or instead of powered speakers, a separate amp and passive speakers:

Amps with a built in phono preamp for the Fluance RT82:

Or amps with line input for the AT-LPW30TK or AT-LP3:

Any of the above amps plus passive speakers:

Plus speaker wire for the passive speakers, pure copper oxygen free 16 AWG. Then How To Strip Speaker Wire and How to Install Speaker Wire.

Yes, and there are many more amps that will do the job. The Sony STR-DH190 stereo receiver is pretty nice. Sony STR-DH190.

Speaker amplification with Bluetooth:

  • Fosi Audio BL20A $67 mini amp has 3.5mm input instead of RCA output so use the correct cable or adapter.
  • Sony STRDH190 $149 stereo receiver.
  • Onkyo TX-8220 $199 adds subwoofer output and digital optical input over the Sony.
  • Or if there is also a TV in the room a Denon AV Receiver $229 with 4K HDMI and the option to add up to 5 speakers for movie, gaming and TV surround sound.
