I've been using the Samsonite Freeform Hardside when I need to check bags, and haven't had any issues with extended travel or use. Personally use the 24" one, but they have a 28" that is in your size range.

If you are looking for something extremely durable (especially if you are using it for heavier equipment and not just clothing), then I would go with Pelican. Their cases are built for durability, and it's while I don't have any personal ones - I use them at work all the time and they are built to last rough handling while keeping their contents safe and secure.
