Yeah, the solenoid latches bind easily. They work best on self-closing doors, either by gravity or spring. Not great if you want self-opening, not just unlocking.

Electronic door strikes should probably work, and have gotten a lot cheaper in the last few years.

You can also use a linear actuator; provides for opening and closing, and can't be forced. They're slow and usually loud but they can exert an absurd amount of force... which you have to be careful of in closing.

But, honestly, use maglocks if you can. Simple, reliable, fail-safe, and easy to make self-opening with a spring.
