This is a great guide, thank you. I am brand new to this, but would love a recommendation from you all to help me be covered in the case of an accident.

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra S. I am planning to upgrade a few things in it: Installing a Atoto F7 XE 7 in double din stereo set up (I might upgrade to the 10.1 F7 XE, not sure yet), with the recommended atoto backup camera that mounts above the rear license plate. Since I haven't installed these yet, I would consider a different set up if it makes sense to you. I can't go much above these prices though.

Questions:

1) Is there a way to use that set up to be my rear channel in my dash cam setup? If not, is there a rear camera I could buy and use in place of the Atoto backup camera that would let me record the rear of the car as a dash cam channel, but also use it as a backup camera with the Atoto unit? If not, I am ok running two rear cameras, would just be nice to streamline it.

2) Could you help me by recommending a budget-minded set up?

  1. Budget: Basically whatever is cheapest that is worth it. Would love to keep the whole thing under $150, but could go higher (maybe to $300) if yall think it is worth the outlay. This is an older car, so I don't feel like I need something that is absolutely top of the line. Here's what I think I want:
  2. Video Quality: no preference
  3. Form Factor: I hate when there's cables/clutter on my dash, so anything that I can tuck out of sight is what I want. I don't want a camera + cable sitting on
  4. Cloud: Not needed, but a nice bonus
  5. Wi-Fi/GPS: Not needed, but a nice bonus
  6. App: no preference
  7. Battery/Supercapacitor: No preference. I was considering putting a backup battery into the car for running accessories/camping/emergency jumpstarting, so if that helps, cool.
  8. Parking Mode: Would love to have parking mode, but not willing to break the bank to get it.
  9. Brands: no preference.
  10. Channels: Front and rear cams, hopefully that can connect to the Atoto unit I mentioned above. I'd also like to have audio recording inside the cabin if possible- that way I can read license plates off as I see them in the case that the camera's don't get them, but I would still have a record of the plate #.
  11. Temps where I live range from 110F to -10F throughout the year
  12. Would like to install it myself

Thank you so much in advance! I really appreciate the help for a newbie like myself!
