For stripping, I’d recommend Yellow cap Easy Off.
Spray to cover the entire bottom of the pan. Put it in a trash bag, close it. Wait 2 hours. Take it out. Scrub like you normally scrub. Rinse. If there’s any thing left on there, repeat with the Easy Off+ trash bag one more time. Now it should be ready to be seasoned.
But be careful, bare iron will rust almost instantly in contact with oxygen. So you have to wipe dry right away. Then heat up on stovetop to dry thoroughly. And start wiping Crisco on right away.
So don’t take it out of the trash bag until you’re sure that you’ll have some time.
