Congrats!! Next, you'll need a classy rocking blotter ;) My nephew and I exchange letters and I got him his own seal, which he loves (he's 15 or so).
I get my wax from letterseals.com because, after 16-odd years of sealing all my letters, I have decided exactly what brands I like and what kinds of wax I like. Also, I live in the US. Whenever I'm in the UK, I try to stock up.
for postal mail: J. Herbin's Cire Souple. As a second choice/cheaper option, Atelier Gargoyle (which is currently on vacation) makes a good postal-safe sealing wax in multiple colors. Since you can't buy direct from them currently, You can get them at Lightbringer Designs and John Neal Bookseller.
for hand-delivery or letters-in-boxes: Most hard waxes are of similar quality. J. Herbin's Cire Banque is a standard, but only available in a giant box.
I refuse to use anything wicked (and you should, too!) and I have not had success with wax beads, but YMMV. Glue gun sealing wax may be worth it for weddings and such, where one must assembly-line seal things, but is generally too thin and poorly colored to work well (although it will survive the mail). I've heard people have had success sealing homemade liquor bottles with glue gun wax.
I've used UNIQOOO which is acceptable, but I wouldn't buy it (it came with my most recent seal).
In San Diego, a quick google revealed that Stacey Himmel likely has glue gun sealing wax (and likely a set of standard brass seals) Kelly Paper is sure to have interesting inks, but call ahead, because not all of their stores carry sealing wax.
As for colors, I prefer a classic burgundy (which is reddish and not actually burgundy, but that's what most places claim the color is) for most uses. I have one seal that will always be in blue (with gold accents when I have time) and I keep a few sticks of dark blue and black around for when I'm feeling those colors more than burgundy. EDIT: Meant to include that I'm wary of metallic/pearlescent/sparkly waxes, as they're usually of lower quality and don't look as nice.
I presume your meatspace first or last name begins with a B. Careful, soon you'll have one in your other name's letter…and then one with both! Muahahahahahaha!
I'm looking forward to having a professional design one for me…
