Not sure what your surfing plans are, but:

Not that brand - I bought mine at a local east-coast surf shop. I've had them on two Honda Fits and a CR-V. Always been careful, never gone over ~68mph, and never tried to carry multiple boards at once.

Your mileage may vary - I'm not trying to say that I can guarantee it'll work perfectly for you, just trying to say that surfboards don't necessarily require full hardmount roof racks.

I've only ever been to Hawaii for two weeks, but in my experience there were plenty of surf shops where I could get helpful ideas and plenty of surfers who knew how to carry boards without formal racks =D
