I mean, I said that they cut build quality in the hoses, causing them to be weak. Every single one of them will not not break, though. I am not even going to try to estimate the numbers, but it would be one out of a massive group that went to a customer that actually rips. Also, a user is more likely to post a review if they are unhappy with the product than if they like it or are neutral on it. For example, most Shark vacuum cleaners have the same hose issue, but you still see largely positive reviews on them with a negative review about the unit breaking here and there. It is just a gamble you take with buying an ultra-budget upright.

Some people on here, due to personal bias, like to pretend that mechanical issues are a Kenmore issue, Shark issue, Bissell issue, or whatever; but most vacuum cleaners under $200 have some kind of common failure point because they lack in build quality. Even commonly recommended affordable units like the Hoover T-Series (formerly Tempo) and Hoover WindTunnel MAX models have issues like them chewing through belts, the attachment clips fatiguing/breaking and no longer holding attachments, the bag releases popping out of place, and the mounts for the back wheels cracking and causing the wheels to jam. This is why I suggested slightly more expensive units like the 31140 and BU1017. They are built just that much better to where they lack areas to where most technicians can point and estimate is maybe going to fail in a few years. More design was put into the more expensive models, so they were able to iron out some of the kinks in the design process.

The Kenmore Intuition has good reviews because it is a versatile vacuum cleaner for the price, and really the only modern bagged lift-away upright on the market right now. Plus, they clean well and handle nicely. They have some good qualities despite the hoses being weaker than they should be. You can definitely still buy the Intuition and they make various models of it, but do not be too sad if the hose rips, because they can do that as I mentioned. They are currently selling one for $160 on Amazon, which is actually a very decent price for what you get.

The "review" linked by another user is extremely biased and has an obvious agenda, by the way. He tries to put a negative spin on every aspect of the Kenmore, even on the HEPA bags with rubber seals, a hands-free bag release, and sealed HEPA exhaust filtration. He also complains about the lift-away feature being useless and not making sense, but if you read online reviews from unbiased customers, that is one of its main selling points and a widely appreciated feature.

Just to give a really brief clarification for anybody reading about Kenmore, the "sketchy" Chinese brand that manufactures the Kenmore vacuum cleaners and manages the brand is Cleva, one of the biggest shop-vac manufacturers on the planet. They have made shop-vacs for years for various brands such as Techtronic/Hoover/Hart, Armor All, Craftsman, and so forth. They also have their own brand called Vacmaster. Anyway, before that, Panasonic used to manufacture the Kenmore vacuum cleaners, but they exited the North American vacuum cleaner market in 2016, transitioning the line to Cleva, who has their own major plant just for the Kenmore vacuum cleaners. They manufacture their more mid-range models like the 31140 and BU1017 in-house in that factory along with the canisters and a few of the other models, but they outsource some of their cheaper models like the Intuition and some of the basic bagless uprights to another Chinese company that makes units for other brands at a similar price point. It is a complex history, but it is a great explanation of why the quality of a Kenmore vacuum cleaner varies.

Anyway, due to the licensing agreement that Sears/Transformco has with Cleva, you can go through Sears/Transformco is you bought it from one of their "authorized retailers" or through Cleva if you bought it elsewhere like from Amazon, Target, and what not. I have personally never dealt with Cleva for warranty work, but the fact that a person was sent one after the hose ripped in that one review means that they probably do honor it as long as you are using it in a household setting and are maintaining it as the manual states. Just make sure that you keep your proof of sale if you do buy one. Since it was an Amazon review, I am guessing that they went directly to Cleva to complain.
