What is your external monitor resolution? The biggest thing you be mindful of is that many of the multi port adapters can only do 30Hz for a 4K monitor but there are ones capable of doing 60Hz.

Even if you aren't playing games or high frame rate video, your mouse will look very jumpy.

I was using all the ports. It didn't get very hot and the color matches my MBP.

I don't have any experience using it long term since I have USB-C monitors for everyday use.
