You could connect your TV to the receiver, but you'd be getting 1080p picture only. I'd recommend the tried and true Denon S760 which is $300 renewed on Amazon.

Right now there is this one for 300, even if I get the 3 year protection plan it is still 150 cheaper than other places I can find it new. I am new to this but my line of thought was if I am saving 200 on a 500 dollar product it is worth the risk that it might break and not be covered while the 2 year factory warranty is in place, but if it doesn't then I've almost saved the cost of just buying a second one.
