My issue with sketching in it was simply that it's a ring-binder for hole-punched paper. When I layed the journal flat, the rings, combined with the fact that the journal is small, would get in the way of my hand. It made it really difficult to navigate the paper in certain situations. I can't exactly tell if yours is bigger than mine, I have the A6 paper sized version.
I ended up getting this journal for sketching because it lays completely flat with no obstruction. I really, really like it but it's a bit pricey and isn't refillable. This specific version is also bigger than my little leather journal. The same size of this would be the $19.95 version.
I really like my leather journal though, and I like that you can add and remove paper. I use it for something else now, and it's perfect. Don't discount it until you try it though. I'm super amateur when it comes to drawing and sketching, so you may have no issues with it.
