Update: just stumbled on this one from DecoGear. Ordered one for myself but it hits all the notes: - 15.6" 1080p IPS - 10,000 mAh battery - Touchscreen - USB-C - Full-size HDMI in - 3.5mm audio - Built in speakers
Mine's arriving on Friday and I'll let y'all know.
UPDATE: so I've been using it for a few days. I did have to exchange my first unit because there was a defect in the screen. Not super noticeable but hey, exchanges are free. My review is: as we all expected, this is certainly a laptop panel inside standalone housing. The colors and viewing angles are decent, and the glossy finish is SUPER reflective. It doesn't get terribly bright, and it's a little chunky. Overall, I think it pretty much fulfills my expectations: when a monitor packs in this many features at this price point, none of them are going to be class-leading. If, like me, you're happy with something as long as it works, then pick this one up. A few drawbacks to be aware of: - My first unit had a defect in the panel. Looked like maybe the panel itself was scratched beneath the glass. Exchanging via Amazon was painless and my second one is flaw-free. - It will only charge my smartphone when the monitor is being powered by the included wall adapter (which is USB-C). - It overlays a battery icon with remaining charge percentage in the top-right corner of the screen. Kind of annoying because it covers up the "X" button on the windows. Searched through the entire OSD menu but couldn't figure out how to disable or even move it to a different corner. - Physically, it is heavy, with thick bezels. - Speaker quality is quite bad. Best for speech, not music. - The buttons are on the back, which makes the OSD very unintuitive to use.
Again, for the price, I'm very impressed and recommend it. All the drawbacks I list above are just things to know going in so that you're not expecting a $500 monitor for $170. Compared to other portable monitors, this wins if only because 10-point multi-touch is a must for DeX, in my opinion. The fact that it charges over USB-C is fantastic for travel.
btw: turns out Deco Gear is a house brand for Beach Camera/BuyDig. If Amazon is out of stock, you can check their sites.
