Maybe some sort of travel immersion heater would work better for you? Assuming your drinking vessel isn't plastic. I have a 300watt one and it'll boil a large mug (about 2 cups) of water in 8 mins (I live at elevation and my water boils at 203°f). My particular one works great, but the heating unit is short making you fill your vessel pretty high, so it's not ideal. I recently tried a longer one, but the quality was awful so I can't recommend any specific ones.
(Serious answer):
I tend to stay at campgrounds with electricity or hotels, so I'm also interested in a cheap, reusable, compact, lightweight, zero emission way to cook without having to use fuels. A good solution is using an immersion heater to boil water. It's not as versatile as a hot plate, but simply having boiling water opens up a lot of possibilities like noodles, soups, oatmeal, instant potatoes, easy mac, or hot tea.
