I think that this is the most fool-proof type of lid for fermenting in wide-mouth mason jars. You don't have to use that exact product, it's just an example of the type.
It comes with a type of manual vacuum pump to get as much oxygen as possible out of the jar. It's good practice to use glass or ceramic weights and do your best to keep the solids below the surface, but this style, when used properly, really adds an extra level of insurance against mold or yeast showing up.
These are just rebranded fermenting lids. They're running 1.5-2x more expensive than the same exact product on Amazon.

I have a set of the cheaper lids. They save my wrists when burping. Just pump the old air out, let new air in, shake the jar a bit, done.
That said, nothing wrong with regular old mason jar lids.
