I would get a wooden one so they can't chew on it. And wood isn't see-through so he wont get spooked by shadows. You could tell your mom your chinchilla can eat the plastic and get intestinal blockage.
You can also remove the ramp and put a wood ledge on the side. They can be fairly reasonably priced too. Just make sure its kiln dried pine or a safe wood for chinchillas.
