Speed Hound Bike Case for Air Travel

I have used this bag twice to fly my Domane SL7 from the Midwest to Maine and Florida. The bag is well thought out, holds the bike securely and has plenty of padding. in a couple weeks, I’ll use it to fly my Checkpoint SL6 up to Maine again. I think you’ll find our bikes are not as fragile as we treat them. The airlines charge $75 each way to take it, but it’s worth it to me to have my bike, rather than some trash rental, plus it’s usually cheaper than renting for the 3-4 days I’ll ride.

Last flight, I’m sitting by the terminal window watching the over-stacked luggage cart get unloaded into the aircraft and I am getting a bit worried because I don’t see my bike bag on the cart. The bike cannot miss the flight since I am going to Florida to ride the full C2C trail. I watch and wait until they get down to the last row, and sure enough, there it is, at the bottom of the pile laying on its side. It had a half dozen suitcases stacked on it when the cart arrived. So I anxiously wait until my bike is brought to large item pickup in Florida. Open the bag, and not even a tiny scratch or any damage. Nothing had moved at all. I’ll be using this bag for years to come.

One thing I noticed was not in your packing tips that should be is spacers for your disk brakes. These will keep the pads separated during travel. Accidentally compressing the brakes without the disks installed will result in a trip to the LBS at your destination. Rubber band them in so they don’t fall out. Learned this the hard way. Watch a couple videos and overpack the bike. I use pipe insulation on all the frame pieces. It helps.

Happy travels.
