I searched on amazon also and found this cable but i dont know if it can handle higher refreshrates then 60hz (it says its for the valve index but im not entierly sure)

Another cable goes out to usb-c but it only 2.0 with 480mb/s i dont know if thats good enough for a headset

I searched this subreddit and found that somebody used the cable i linked on the main post and it worked for them. So my best bet is that one.

Based on a quick google search of the F15 tech specs. Your laptop does actually have display port over USB-C. If your USB-C port is currently unused you could just get a USB-C to Display Port Full-Size like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Aluminum-Compatible/dp/B07F17ZHJY/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?crid=2Y1QJA30CTBYA&keywords=usb+c+to+displayport&qid=1673317379&sprefix=usb+c+to+display%2Caps%2C298&sr=8-16
If you need your USB-C for something else like power than it gets a little more complicated and you’ll need to get a USB-C dock that can output the Display Port connector while passing through the data/power you need.
I recommend sticking to an adapter (like I’ve linked) or dock that supports a high resolution and refresh rate or you might find it not able to produce the frame rate required for your VR headset.

It is possible. I was using one on my index with my laptop before I ended up building a sffpc for dedicated VR.

It may just be that adapter, not all adapters are fully compatible. It actually sounds like the adapter is overheating and failing. It might be that that one is faulty, or you might have to get another brand.

This is the one I had luck with. Ymmv

I have a Mech with AMD and a Rift S. I can confirm that this works great with this adaptor. Every other adaptor I tested didn't work.

So the WD19TB will be a safe bet for me then? And at most I will need the adaptor as an extra on top of it?

An update, I have been trying to get wide fov on a Razer blade 14, using this adaptor to connect the pimax 5k super to the laptop: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F17ZHJYSomeone else recommended that cable for the vive and razor blade 14.

Plugging the pimax directly into another system/directly into a gpu gets me the large fov settings I expected under games. I now suspect that adaptor might be part of the problem, but I will try to reinstall pitools on the laptop and see if I can get the same behavior as below on it.

Another data point, I replaced the default pimax cable with the optical cable.

For people with laptops that have mini displayport, there have been lots of adapters that dont work too well but this one is perfect:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F17ZHJY/?coliid=I1NRADOQ99NKB8

Also for people who doesnt want to make holes on the walls, this base station supporters were recommended by some people:

This 6ft / 2m extension seems to work pretty well:

Refering to this, I found this: USB 3.2 Type-C™ with DisplayPort™ 1.4

I've used this adapter with good results.

Good luck.

If the thunderbolt 3 connection on the XMG Fusion 15 supports DP 1.4 then there is definitely enough bandwidth. Can anyone confirm that there is DP 1.4 support?

Yes, it's DP 1.4.

Depending on the input signal quality of the monitor, you might need a more beefy USB-C/DP adapter:

But first just try it with the adapter that came with your XMG FUSION 15.

The type C ports are connected to the GPU so you should definitely get video out of the type c ports. Is your monitor 1080p 165hz? I don't have much confidence that your proposed solution would work. Using type A will introduce a bottleneck to your max video signal. I would get a usb C to displayport adapter and skip the dock.

This is the one I bought originally that has been fine, but started the random shut downs/offs which started my research. This is the one that I bought and should have tomorrow. I will report back.

It would be this one: Cable Matters DisplayPort 1.4

It is $20 USD so a bit on the higher side of cables but it does work for me
