We actually sewed in hidden pockets to a few of our garments as well. It's been particularly useful on skorts (wife). We sewed the pockets to the shorts under the skirt using spare fabric.

Alternatively, you can purchase an off the shelf money belt. These are nice because you can attach the 'pocket' to any pant/belt and not need to transfer contents. There's a variety of types and fits, but the kind that loop onto your belt work well.

As every traveler is different though, it's nice that there are so many different options!

I bought a hidden pocket that I'll be using for my trip in May. I figure that as long as a ride op doesn't see me putting stuff in or out of it, I should be fine.
