This entire conversation has been incredibly helpful!

I recently purchased and received the Nanoleaf Shapes Hexagon Smarter Kit, which includes 7 hexagons.

My intended uses:

  • Look cool on my ceiling 😎
  • Help me light up my board game table as I host a ton of board game nights.

I intend on placing them all on my ceiling (note: this is my 1st time doing this!). using 3M velcro, instead of using what's provided in the box, similar to u/PauloTheKing u/ashleypenny. I have a few questions:

  1. I'm slightly torn on the exact (if that makes a difference) 3M Velco strips I should be going with, as the words "picture" and "poster" leave me unsure ☹️. What do you recommend (I've only searched for "small command strips" so far)?
    1. Command Picture Hanging (18-pairs / 36-Strips)
    2. Command Poster Hanging Strips (64 strips)
    3. Command Small Refill Replacement Strips (64-strips)
  2. Where would you recommend I place the velcro strips? For example: only on the mounting plate that comes attached to the hexagon? I do have a good sense of what to do from what you described above.
  3. Unrelated to the velcro questions, I am thinking about purchasing 2 more hexagons to have 9 panels I can play with like u/ashleypenny. Out of curiosity, what made you go with 9? I think I still need to research the flexibility I have available to me.

I see in another post u/ashleypenny had mentioned the following:

I found the standard command strips too thin for the hexagons, I used the Velcro backed ones because they’re thicker. Two tabs, both top and bottom of the rotating backplate rather than the unit itself this allows for the first one to rotate for correct alignment during install

This lends itself to my 1st and 2nd question above which is helpful! But, I'm curious as to what "velcro backed ones" you recommend, unless all/most of them are all the same and I'm over-thinking this.
