Most of the kits I have put on was almost 20 years ago at this point, but I remember needing to use a Dremel quite frequently for fitment. I plan on putting a full R34 Duraflex kit on my 1G this year.

Have you looked into splitter/diffuser kits? Not exactly a true side skirt, but gives you some flair.
