If you use a good crimp tool, the crimp is very robust.

You don't have to spend that much money-- you're looking for the dual size mandrel, with thick jaws to provide a crimp over a wide area.
As an alternative, consider mounting push disconnects on the crossover board, or european style barrier strips (no spadelug required.)
