I think so, but you should probably first start with retailers that have a good return policy / free return shipping. I'm usually an 8.5W for women's closed toe shoes, but it varies by brands (sometimes I have to go up or down a half-size).
For New Balance, I'm a Girls'/Kids' 6.5M. I'm pretty sure I'm a 6.5M in Nike Kids too; accidentally bought a 6 last year and it's just a smidge too short. (Then I forgot to ship them back in time for return. Augh.) New Balance actually also offers wide and xtra wide for their kids' shoes too, which is nice! One thing to be careful about while shopping is making sure you're getting the Big Kids size, not the Little Kids - there overlap in the numbering schemes, which makes the whole thing a bit more complex.
EDIT TO ADD: I've had success with buying kids' sizes in Adidas street-style tennis shoes. I do urban travel by and large, and I find them to be a great balance of style and comfort. For winter, I ended up getting a pair of waterproof(-ish) Converse on deep sale but had been eyeing a pair of hi-top waterproof Vans until then. Worked great for Europe over NYE.
