Then there is another way with RAM mounts. Which I love.
Mount this to your eyelet. https://www.amazon.com/Mount-Motorcycle-Base-Hole-1-Inch/dp/B0012TRIY4/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1522884786&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=ram+mount+9mm&psc=1
Then use these to mount the camera.
RAM Mounts are the shyt. https://www.rammount.com
Ive used ram mounts. They make ball and sockets, rail mounts, ball to ball clamps etc. Amazon has them and some cheaper makes as well. On our Cal20 I clamped the ball type to the boat, mounted that to an extendable "selfie stick" (no, I dont use it as a selfie stick ;) ). It is essentially an extendible camera boom. This way you can change the positions of the go pro, hang it way overboard to show heel or above the boat, in front of you, behind you what ever. I have a ram mount on the stanchion by the gate on our 38 Irwin. Same deal. Almost done installing a "Tower In a Box" sail arch. One thing I will do for the go pro is add a pole on that that can pivot and swivel from below. Get some good shots from above and behind the main sail.

Just a few parts they offer.
Edit: added additional info.
It's an extra piece to secure the phone by stretching the arm loops around the corners of the phone. I've found it unnecessary though. Also, I'd recommend getting a Ram Mount X-Grip or something similar to use with the Rugged Ridge base, as it's a sturdier grip. Here's what I bought to make that happen:
Not cheap but I really love my RAM X-grips and mounts. They're primarily designed for motorcycle use so they genuinely hold my phone with no fears of it falling off. It's a whole system and you mostly buy pieces a la carte but this mount plus the phone grip and then a stem to connect them. If you look around you may or may not be able to find sets that have two or three of those pieces in them for a lower price.
It is, as I say, not cheap, but it's much less expensive than trying to replace your iphone.
